What is the equivalent average grade?
The equivalent average grade is a procedure to adapt the grading system of different countries to that used by Spanish universities. This requirement began to be requested of foreign students starting in 2016 in order to facilitate the procedures and paperwork for Spanish universities.
The procedure is available for non-graduate students who have not completed their studies with some observations. Likewise, graduate students in the process of homologation of a university degree or master’s degree may take it.
How can I submit an application and process the equivalent average grade?
The Declaration of Average Grade Equivalence is a free, online procedure that you can carry out at any time of the year on the website of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training of Spain.
To do so, access the “ Equivalence of average grades of university studies carried out in foreign centers ” section. Through it you can follow the following steps to obtain the declaration.
Enter the online service
When you enter the Equivalence of average grades for university studies carried out in foreign centers page , you will find the Access to the online service button . Create your username and password and then enter the system with them.
Once inside, you will find a page called Electronic Office next to a search box. In it, enter the keyword “grades” to find the Equivalent Average Grade process among the applications and click on it.
Once you enter the application, you will find the Add button . When you click on it, a statement will appear on the screen that you must accept under oath regarding the veracity and officiality of the information you provide.
Use the tools available
On the website of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training you will find different documents that will guide you in the process. Once you have entered and reviewed the guide documents, log in to the system with your information and enter the following information:
- Personal information.
- Degree information.
- Study classification codes.
- Study classification scale.
- Subjects, credits and equivalencies.
- Summary of grades and overall average.
- Additional Information.
- Procedures to which the declaration is submitted.
- Accrediting documentation.
- Print and Finish.
The Study Classification Scale section is the one that usually brings the most confusion. To fill it out correctly, go to the document Grading scales of foreign countries and the general equivalences to the average grades of the grading system of Spanish universities , look for the scale of your country and enter it in the form. Additionally, you must enter an explanation of your scale.
Then, in the Subjects, credits and equivalences section you must enter your grades and number of credits individually so that the system calculates the equivalences automatically. Once you fill out all the spaces, the form will automatically calculate the final average grade for your academic record.
Print and submit the GPA Equivalency Statement
Once you obtain the average of your file, print or download it to present it to the entity that requested it. Remember that you must attach it to your Carolina Foundation Scholarship application. The printed document will have a secure verification code (CSV). When submitted, it must be reviewed, compared with the originals and signed by the requesting institution for it to be valid.
